Most off track doors will appear crooked. The more askew the door is, the more your vertical track will bend, and rollers on the opposite side will pop out of their tracks.
There are a few causes for off track doors. One of the most common would be the door hitting an object on one side, momentarily tilting the door and causing one of the side cables to become mis-aligned. The tangled up cable will keep the door from moving on that side.
Another common cause for an off track garage door, is an old, rusty, or worn out torsion spring that isn’t providing lift, or tension across the cable, that it once did. The loose cable will eventually get tangled up on the torsion tube up above, causing the door to go crooked and get stuck. The bearing plates that turn with the torsion tube also will get worn out over the years. Old bearings will cause friction as the door goes up and down. Eventually one or both of them can seize up and cause the door to go off track.
We recommend replacing the bearing plates every 10-15 years or if there is black residue emitting out the side.
